Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
So they are changing 'Songs of Praise' as the programme viewers has been in decline.

Aaqil Ahmed, BBC head of religion since 2009, said: “For a good decade now the audience numbers have been in decline. That’s not because it’s not very well made. The option is, let that continue or do something about it. Because of immigration you’ve got significant numbers of people coming in from Africa and eastern Europe, you’ve got growth in Catholicism because of this."

Where have all the viewers gone?

Zero accusing anyone on here if sneering?

Well I've read it all now.

As for gph, his posts are worth reading because they usually have some kind of actual content to them you can actually learn something from. He does not split hairs, pretend to misunderstand at a strictly formal level or finally resort to snide remarks when totally at a loss.

I like gph, he's a fine poster.

Indeed. But gph has gone into a tizzy and called me a liar because I pointed out this applies to him.

If you are his defence advocate, you are doing a poor job.

You've lost me Hermit.

You mean that there is actual empirical evidence other than that written in the Bible that proves what God and Jesus had to say about things?"

That wasn't what you said though was it? I thought you were claiming that the gospels were written hundreds of years after Jesus lived, that's what I responded to.

I know geep very well in 'real life' and can confirm that he has a terrifyingly excellent memory. To the point that my own 'normal human' powers of recollection irritate the feck out of him because I cannot keep up.

Good synopsis. Anyone who truly follows the core values of Christianity, Islam or Judaism is not going to be a wrong-un. Sadly, many distort the core values and always have.

Extreme Islam now is just what the Crusades were, doing 1000 years ago. Islamists are just having a catch-up.

It's somewhat ironic that most of the world's "peaceful faiths" centre around one middle eastern area that is deep in the murder and horror of killing fellow human beings.

And also somewhat baffling the UK's beloved(?) Saint George was born in what is now, Syria.

Songs of Praise is a boring bunch of backward druids.

Put some black gospel singing on and people will watch.

I mean proper evidence, not stuff made up by the Church.

Liar? Really? Now that's truly pitiful.

The whole tone of every one of your posts screams, 'anyone who thinks different is an idiot'. Calling me a liar for drawing this pretty obvious inference is hysterical.

No amount of 'some of my best friends are black' style dissembling gets you away from that.

I went to Sunday school 50 years ago, too. I can't say I remember any of the Isiah stories offhand and I'm pretty sure they were never couched as being part of a slavery debate. You however know every story in fine detail, especially, it seems, the ones that were least likely to be taught in the first place, to whit the ones that show God in a poor light. If anyone is a liar, it isn't me.

You're obsessed, but like I say, carry on, it's funny.

GPh

There are various atheist fundamentalists on this site but I've never seen you as one. Still don't. You always seem to be able to have a reasonable discussion on here. IMHO.

I popped into St Doms in Camden yesterday. Lit a candle and said a a prayer for the fallen. Then went to the pub, as every good Irish Catholic does.

Having a debate on WHO is the action of some kind of obsessive?

Knowing (mostly because of RE at school - shit so tedious it was almost child cruelty) something of what you talk about gives the game away?

Lying in order to win is far more symptomatic of someone who's so obsessed with their own "victory" that they don't care about the subject, just their beautiful self.

But lying in the first post - that's something of a record even for you.

You've become addicted to it, haven't you?

Well, if you do actually think that believing in this stuff is something that intelligent people do why do you bang on about it like some sort of obsessive? For someone who doesn't believe a word of it, you have an encyclopediac knowledge of the most obscure of bible stories.

Surely anyone not clinically insane would just at some point say, 'OK, let's agree to disagree' rather than devote large chunks of their life unsuccessfully attempting to convert the unconvertable.

But please carry on. The irony of your fanatical, proselytising and zealous atheism is delicious.

I wonder how many people that complain about things like this, actually still go to church regularly, watch things like Songs of praise and celebrate the religious aspect to Easter and Christmas.

The Orthodox Jews are the people to go to for really special headgear - not the big black hats, not the skullcaps, but the tefillin:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tefillin

There is even matching armgear.
